Family cleans up after flooding creates major damage Laughlin showed WAVE 3 home video of the flooding in their neighborhood. Water reached the tires of their neighbors car and you could not see Bicknell Avenue. We started taking all our towels and blankets and loading them up to the front door and back door so we can stop the water, Laughlin said. But the towels and the blankets did not stop the water from coming inside. All of a sudden it started coming up through the middle of the house and with 5 minutes we were ankle deep through the whole house in water, Laughlin said. Several hours after the flooding started, the water receded. Laughlin home video showed his daughter walking through walked through the kitchen where there was a puddle. The video showed the drenched towels and blankets they tried to use to keep the water out. It got so bad inside his home, Laughlin decided to remove the carpet from his kids bedroom. With the help of his wife, they cleaned up. We started tearing the carpet out so we could get the floors dry at least have something for the kids to sleep on tonight. We wanted to get the house as dry as possible for them, Laughlin said. Laughlin planned to work throughout the night to remove all the damaged carpet, make his home livable, and dry again. Laughlin said he does not have renters insurance and plans to replace his household items slowly. He estimates the damages around $5,000. | | 5:12 pm |

Biederlack fuels fashion blankets New York – For the first time in many years, Biederlack was back in the New York market with goods produced in its German factory and an eye toward carving out a space for fashion blankets in the better end of retail. Biederlack factory in Cumberland, Md. has long been a resource for novelty, sports-themed and regional motif blankets and throws for the mass market. The new European collection represents the other end of the spectrum. The emphasis on fashion orients the blankets more toward the master bedroom, living room and great room. The line targets better moderate and up, with retails running from $40 to $80, depending upon the size and construction of the blanket. Were definitely not out there to compete with the Chinese guys, said export staffer Oliver Kabisch, export. Weve really taken this product upstairs in design and quality. Constructions include jacquards woven with 180 picks for a dense, velvety hand as well as combinations in a variety of fibers, including organic cotton. One textural line is constructed with cotton on one side of the blanket, wool on the other. Biederlack also uses effect yarns such as lurex in some of its designs. Although home departments have been struggling for several quarters, Biederlack export director Bill Koch told HTT the company was convinced it was time to move, after a trip to the U.S. to survey the retail landscape. After we saw the poor condition of the blanket department, we said: Let give it a lift. Merchandise is expected to begin drop-shipping from the Cumberland distribution center next month, said Koch. | | Tuesday, December 8th, 2009 | | 8:57 am |
Blankets for Babies The Blankets for Babies program provides blankets and quilts for babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU at Lucile Packard Children Hospital. They are used by our NICU babies and taken home as one of their first keepsakes. The quilts and blankets are made by the creative and generous efforts of our community volunteers. During this often stressful time, the quilts and blankets offer a taste of home and are cherished by each family. Having these quilts in babies cribs and isolettes offers a distraction for parents from the medical equipment surrounding their baby. The families are so grateful that people take the time to make something special for their babies. Blankets for Babies originally started with quilts made by the NICU own sewing committee. However, there were never enough quilts for every baby. Volunteers in the community have greatly increased the number of blankets and quilts we are able to give to families and we are grateful for our volunterrs continued support. Our goal is to continue to have a blanket or quilt for each of the over 1500 babies that come through the NICU every year. For quilts, we request pre-washed fabric such as cotton or flannel in colors and patterns of your choice. Quilters love to use their orphan blocks for quilts or you may choose to use a premade decorative panel which is easy to back with a layer of batting between. The types of blankets requested are knit or crocheted, using soft yarns, please. We would like the quilt/blanket sizes to be anywhere between 24 inches square and 36 inches square. This best covers the needs of all sizes of babies. | | Monday, December 7th, 2009 | | 9:09 am |

Babies blankets Each year, the Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin Birth Center creates a little extra warmth for its tiny patients through the Blankets for Babies initiative. Its enthusiastic champion, Paula Lembke, a Birth Center nurse, collects blankets donated by community members to make sure each infant born at Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin goes home with a little extra wrapping. In December, 2005, triplets were the first recipients of Blankets for Babies for that year (the program used to be in December only but has since expanded to year-round). The blankets and hats are so beautiful, said new mother Therese Shafer of the crocheted items given to her daughters Morgan, Lauren and Caelan shortly after they were born on Dec. 1. It is so thoughtful that these were donated; we are very grateful to whoever made them. In 2005, Lembke collected more than 325 blankets and other items from community groups and individuals - including a former patient who created and donated a quilt. I wish I could personally thank every one of you who helped made this project a success, she said. These blankets will keep our babies warm this winter. | | 9:05 am |
Blankets for a babies a message of love BAUMHOLDER, Germany Handmade blankets piled are now a staple at the American Red Cross located on U.S. Army Garrison Baumholder. A new program called Blankets for Babies has been established for family members in the Baumholder community who have had a baby while their Soldier was deployed. First of all the whole idea for this came as something that we wanted the Red Cross to do for the community that would be something different than just doing the CPR courses, said volunteer Judy Tarantino, American Red Cross station chairperson. We are looking for different things to give back to the community that we are not necessarily charging for. It is based on volunteers, she said. Tarantino used to make baby blankets for a project with friends and she knew she could probably get others to do the same thing. The deployed Soldiers wives are having babies here, and they dont always have that family support that they would have if they were back in the States. So I got in touch with my quilting friends in Durango and asked what they thought. They started with a donation of 50 blankets and then more and more people got involved in the community. The blankets started coming in, although I thought we would never have enough, said Tarantino. The materials were supplied by the American Red Cross to the volunteers. People in the States and in the community donated to the program. I think it is a really nice thing to do for moms who dont have their support with them, and babies need lots of blankets, said Susan Shadley, family member. More than 300 blankets have been donated, and 20 people have volunteered for this program. As of late March, 120 blankets were given out to community members who have a baby since the deployment started. Everybody has really gotten involved with this. First of all on a volunteer basis, I have had volunteers that have turned in two or three blankets, continued Tarantino. She explained that the Brownies donated little blankets and a whole gift set. Even the staff at the American Red Cross has worked on some of the blankets. We have had mothers visiting their daughters and they would make blankets while they were here and donate them, said Libby Worman, American Red Cross assistant station manager. Without the support of the staff, Dennis Moran, American Red Cross station manager, and Libby Worman we wouldnt have been able to fund this. Baumholder Community Spouses Club also gave a generous grant toward the program, said Tarantino. It has gotten the Red Cross name out there so that people can really understand more about what the Red Cross does, she added. | | Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009 | | 8:55 am |
Custom-Made Blankets to Go to Hubble U.S. space agency astronauts will be carrying custom-made blankets when they embark on the Hubble Space Telescope servicing mission next August. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration mission is designed to complete multiple upgrades and repairs to extend the telescope operational life. One of the mission many objectives is the refurbishment of the space telescope outer thermal blankets. Thermal blankets are to spacecraft as clothes are to people, said Mike Weiss, Hubble technical deputy program manager. Just as clothes cover our skin and help protect us from nature elements &133; thermal blankets protect Hubble from the harsh environment of space. As Hubble orbits Earth it is exposed to both the extreme cold of deep space and the powerful heat of the sun in rapid and constant cycles. The thermal blankets -- designed to insulate Hubble equipment from extreme temperature changes -- consist of 16 layers of dimpled aluminum with an outer Teflon skin. The blankets effectively protect onboard instruments against extreme temperature swings even though the blanket is incredibly thin, measuring less than 1-10th of an inch thick when laid flat, NASA said. Hubble is a joint project of NASA and the European Space Agency. | | Tuesday, December 1st, 2009 | | 9:40 am |

Why do baby boys get blue blankets and girls get pink? I know we all think its because one is a boy he gets blue personalized blankets and the girl gets pink embroidered blankets, but I am just wondering why it is that way? On the other hand, the idea of associating blue with male babies may stem back to ancient times when having a boy was good luck. Blue, the color of the sky where gods and fates lived, held powers to ward off evil, so baby boys where dressed blankets in blue. In Greece a blue eye is still thought to have powers to ward off evil. The idea of pink for girls might come from the European legend that baby girls were born inside delicate pink roses. | | Friday, November 27th, 2009 | | 8:50 am |

Personalized Blankets are Sure to Please Only you can decide what types of personalized promotional gift are right for your friends, co-workers or family members. Promotional blankets are a fabulous and unique gift idea. With so many wonderful products from which to choose, you cant help but find one that’s perfect for the recipient. Whether its a monogrammed stadium fleece or a photo collage blanket, they are sure to thrill! Personalized blankets and throws are an increasingly popular gift for friends and family members of all ages because they combine a thoughtful, personalized touch with practicality. You should take the time to decide what you really want and compare quality, price and features before making a purchase. Once you start looking, you will be surprised by the variety of sizes, styles, materials and options available in personalized blankets and throws. The material a throw is made of generally determines what type of personalization can be used. Fleece throws are always a good bet. These are the polar fleece throws that are popular for football blankets and winter pullovers. They are often edged with a blanket-stitch trim and usually come in a wide variety of colors. You will like these for their durability and easy care – simply toss them into the washer and dryer. They can be personalized with embroidery, usually done on one corner that features names, dates or a short quote. You are typically limited to three or four short lines of text and only one thread color, so pick something that contrasts well with the color of the fleece. Fleece throws are a nice choice for active people who will use it for tailgating, sporting events or camping. Knit blankets and throws are another great custom bedding option. You can purchase personalized blankets and throws in a wide range of sizes, from baby blankets to oversized throws that big enough for two people to snuggle under. They feature a great texture, similar to that of a cable-knit fishermans sweater. And, they have a hand-made look thats sure to be admired. Some knit blankets are 100% cotton, while others are made of a cotton/polyester blend. The personalization options are similar to those for a fleece throw, although some manufacturers and specialty stores offer custom embroidery that includes up to five colored threads and a choice of attractive emblems surrounding the text. Emblems such as hearts, flowers, vines and other motifs are available. You can choose something specific to the occasion, such as wedding bells for a bridal gift or teddy bears for a baby shower. Emblems add an extra-special touch. Tapestry afghans are sure to please. They are the next step up in personalization, featuring full-color reproductions of whatever photo you submit on 100% cotton throw. Your picture is recreated by weaving together thousands of individual, colored threads to reproduce the image. So, no matter how many times you wash the afghan, the image wont fade. There can be some loss of resolution when a photo is reproduced this way because the weaving process cant retain the crispness and color clarity of the original. But, the images are still lovely. Afghans are extremely soft and warm, and the muted colors with fringe all around are ideal for tossing over the back of a sofa or chair in the living room. Most photo afghans are machine washable. Tapestries make wonderful, personalized birthday gifts. Theyre perfect for when you are looking for something with the traditional look of a woven throw, but would like to include the personal touch of a photo. Grandparents love tapestry throws with pictures of their grandchildren. And newlyweds will cherish an afghan with a picture of the two of them on their first date. Kids bedding is also perfect for personalization. Photo Blankets are by far the most personalized blankets or throws that you can get. Like a tapestry afghan, you can have your own photo on a photo blanket. Unlike an afghan, you can also opt to have multiple photos reproduced for a collage effect on photo blankets. Some manufacturers offer you the option to add up to sixteen personal photographs on one photo blanket. This offers a truly personalized heirloom blanket. The picture reproduction on photo blankets is extremely high resolution; it is dyed directly into the microsuede fabric for a crisp, sharp look. Polar fleece is fused to the reverse side for extra warmth and softness. Photo Blankets are usually available in a variety of sizes and are machine washable, so theyre easy to care for and dont fade as the images are dyed right into the fabric. A photo blanket with a collage of pictures of all the grandchildren would be the perfect gift for a grandparent with lots of grandchildren. They are also popular for capturing memories of a vacation or other memorable events. The bright colors and crisp reproduction make photo blankets ideal gifts when you want to retain all the details of a stunning photo. Whether its the colors of a tropical sunset, the joy of newborn, or the way the candlelight fell on the brides face in a wedding picture, it will be captured forever. | | Monday, November 23rd, 2009 | | 9:15 am |
Personalized Photo Blankets Keep Loved Ones Close When Far Away In todays fast-paced world families are often spread across the country or even around the world and its hard to keep in touch. We can email photos and talk on the phone, but it doesnt make up for all those hugs and kisses from grandkids. Personalized photo blankets are one way grandpa and grandpa can snuggle up with their grandkids even when theyre far away. Online sites have been created where you can custom design personalized blankets with anywhere from one to sixteen pictures that are amazingly crisp and clear on soft, warm blankets that any grandparent will love. Its a great way to give grandparents a gift that serves two purposes. The blanket is a practical, warm throw for chilly evenings, but its also a wonderful, over-sized photo album of their grandchildren. Theyll love wrapping up on the warmth of their grandchildrens smiles. For a terrific way to keep grandparents and grandchildren close, take a picture of them together at the next family reunion or holiday get-together, then order a set of personalized photo blankets for each grandchild and grandparent. It will give them a special connection to think that they all have the same memento of an extra-special time they enjoyed with each other. If your spouse or fiancé has to go away for work, the military or any other reason it can be difficult for both of you. Being apart can put a strain on any relationship and the nights can be the hardest. Personalized photo blankets can be designed not only with photos but with words. Have one designed with your own message, the words of a song or whatever you choose to say that conveys how you feel. Combined with a photo or you, it will be the closest thing to having you there that you can give. Imagine a favorite picture of the two of you together or a photo of you wearing that dress he loves to see you in and a message below it telling him how much you love him. Wouldnt he love drifting off to sleep under your gaze every night? Hell have sweet dreams of you for sure! Dont forget to send kids off to summer camp with a loving reminder of home, either. Personalized photo blankets with photos of friends, family and even the family pet are great conversation starters. Your kids will love showing off the bright, colorful pictures to their new friends and talking about who everyone is. You wont have to worry about homesickness when they curl up in their photo blanket. Sometimes the time comes for friends to go their separate ways. You graduate from high school or college, or different job offers come up, whatever the reason, suddenly one of you moves far away. Give your friend a special gift that will remind her that shell always be special to you. A personalized photo blanket featuring a photo of the two of you with a personal note printed across the top or bottom will bring back fond memories every time she uses it. Dont let friends or family move away without letting them know just how much they mean to you. Creating personalized photo blankets that are destined to become family heirlooms will clearly show just how special they are to you. | | 9:06 am |

Fleece Throws Encourage cuddling, promote warmth, and get cozy in front of the tv with fleece throws. The popularity of polar fleece fabric and the usefulness of ordinary blankets have been combined into a versatile, multipurpose, comfortable and decorative blanket. Not to mention the price--fleece throws are relatively inexpensive, too. Fleece throws: Adult Blankets Fleece throws, left around the home, encourage cuddling on the couch with a well-read book and a good cup of tea or cocoa. Its an adult version of the security blanket, that doesnt have to be left on the bed. They can be worn around the house, placed on the sofa or a bed, as well as kept under the covers for sleep time warmth. You can also use fleece to cover throw pillows, travel pillows, and end tables. It feels luxurious on your skin, retains warmth and wicks moisture away quickly. Fleece also lends itself to sewing crafts, and no-sew projects too. Businesses have finally caught on to their popularity, as many realize just how easy and good looking it is to have a company logo embroidered onto a fleece throw. Blankets are universally accepted, are neither age nor gender specific, and come in a variety of colors and styles for every audience. So for your next gift giving occasion, consider giving the gift of warmth and security. | | 9:59 am |
Blankets Introduction The American sports fan, like the American football player, has no regard for the weather. The game goes on at -7 degrees, and the fans come out to watch. The players approach the field in a plethora of padding and scientifically engineered safety devices. The fans come equally prepared, often with promotional gift. Just as the helmet is perhaps the most important protection against head trauma for a player, so the blanket may be the most important protection against frostbite for the sports aficionado. Of course, blankets are not just useful for sports fans. Promotional blankets will warm the hearts and bodies of end-users on plane, train and car trips. Picnic and beach blankets are a great way to keep promotions at work during clients leisure time. And, for the fans at home, blankets also work well in domestic settings. | | 9:52 am |
The Use of Promotional gift Practically speaking, promotional gift makes everybody happy. Everybody enjoys free gifts. This includes employees, customers and managers. Free gifts are an effective way to say thank you all the while attaching a subtle advertisement for your brand name or product. Some companies spend millions of dollars a year just to create brand awareness. Corporations pay Olympic athletes to wear sports gear with the sole intent of promoting a name or a special line of athletic wear. Now you can do the same, for much less out of pocket. You can create your own line of promotional gift to distribute to your employees or your customers. Some companies have found that creating a team shirt or hat promotes unity, improves relationships between workers and management, and continues to promote the name of the company to the public. Others have found that creating promotional items for customer giveaways is a good way to draw interest and win undecided customers over. What are some common items used in brand name promotion? There are simple items like caps and shirts, and higher priced items like jackets, sweaters, tote bags and blankets. Some items are of superior quality, these include polar fleece shirts and shirts specially made for wicking and high performance. If you want to get your whole family in on the action then you can even order some child sized promotional gift. | | Monday, November 16th, 2009 | | 9:52 am |
Fiberglass Blankets and Blown In Insulation Summary: Fiberglass blankets, or batt insulation, and blown in insulation are essentially the same product. Only the batt is suggested for the DIY homeowner. The seven insulation manufacturers providing these home insulation products are listed here.
There are two or three fiberglass manufacturers that everybody knows. Each of these companies has tried to create an identity for themselves by coloring their fiberglass insulation products. However, did you know that there are a total of seven companies in the business? Some of the names you would readily recognize. Others are minor players. The bottom line, though, is that fiberglass is virtually the same no matter who makes it. The important part of the manufacturing process is how it is spun, cross-laminated and constructed.
Fiberglass insulation works as an insulator when it can trap and hold millions and billions of air bubbles or particles. This is accomplished by the intertwining of the fiberglass fibers. Too much fiberglass per given cubic measurement and you have no air. Too little fiberglass and the air can pass through rapidly. The trick is to get the correct balance. The major manufacturers perfected this process years ago. Recently their research has provided insulation which is less irritating, and batts which come wrapped in plastic. The scientists continue to work hard on new products. I cant wait to see when the space shuttle heat shield technology finally makes it to the residential market. When it does, we will be heating our homes with a candle!
Blown-in fiberglass is the same product as batt insulation. A DIYr can easily install batt insulation. Blown-in fiberglass is not so easy. The biggest obstacle is finding installation equipment. The blowing machines for fiberglass are large and powerful. They are usually truck mounted, not portable. The engines that power the blowers are usually 10 horsepower or larger. You wont put this type of equipment in the back of your car, trust me! Call the professional. It is usually cheaper. |
